Questions we hear most
Licensing, limits of undelete, and how this site relates to the app—short answers you can skim in a hurry.
Is Recuva free to use?
A free tier has long been offered for personal recovery. For commercial deployment, confirm the current license with the product you install. Terms can change.
Can any tool guarantee file recovery?
No. Outcomes depend on overwrite history, drive health, filesystem, and SSD TRIM. Treat “excellent” states as hints until you open the file.
Why did filenames disappear after deep scan?
Directory entries are often gone; deep scan rebuilds from signatures. Data can survive with a generic name.
Is recuva.us run by the Recuva developers?
No. This is an independent educational site. Recuva is a separate product; names and trademarks belong to their owners.
Can I recover files to the same drive I am scanning?
You should not. Saving recovered files onto the volume you are scanning risks overwriting clusters that still hold recoverable data. Use a different disk or partition with enough free space.
Portable Recuva vs installed—when does it matter?
If the sick volume is your system disk, running a portable copy from USB or another partition reduces extra writes from installers and updates. On a healthy data drive, either approach is usually fine if recovery still goes elsewhere.
How long should a deep scan take?
It depends on capacity, speed, bad sectors, and USB stability. Large spinning disks and deep mode can run for hours. Interrupted scans on failing media warrant imaging first.
Does Recuva work on BitLocker-encrypted drives?
The volume must be unlocked with your password or recovery key first. Undelete tools read decrypted blocks; they cannot recover meaningful files from locked ciphertext.
What does an “excellent” recovery state mean?
It is a hint from the tool, not a promise. Always open recovered files in their real applications and verify checksums or previews when the data matters.
Does recuva.us provide technical support for Recuva?
No. This guide does not run support tickets or represent any company. Use it as a structured field reference for recovery habits and limits only.
Does Recuva work on Windows 11?
It is a Windows desktop utility; recent Windows 10 and 11 releases are typical targets. If a build fails to launch, check compatibility notes for the version you installed and run as administrator when volumes are hidden to standard users.
Can I recover files after a full format?
A quick format may leave more recoverable data than a full format that overwrote the volume. Success varies by filesystem, whether the disk was reused, and SSD TRIM. Try deep scan if quick mode is empty, but temper expectations.
Why does my network or mapped drive behave differently?
Recovery tools target local block storage. SMB shares, NAS web UI, and browser-only cloud folders are not the same as an internal disk or USB stick—use the provider’s version history or support when files never existed locally.
Does recuva.us sell licenses or reset passwords?
No. We do not sell software, reset licenses, or recover account passwords. Purchase and activation are outside the scope of this guide.
